Your engine is the an important and expensive part of your car. It’s a complex piece of engineering with numerous interconnected systems that enable it to work at its best. A large number of components, heat, and friction in the engine means components can wear out or suffer damage. As your GMC dealer in Mansfield, OH, we can fix any worn or damaged parts. These are some of the engine problems we can fix.

Engine overheating Mansfield, OH

Dead Battery

Your battery’s most important function is to start the engine. It does this by sending an electrical charge to the solenoid in the starter motor, which causes the engine to crank. A battery has a limited life, as an average battery will need replacement in three to five years. There are several possible causes, aside from age, that your battery could fail, including a worn alternator, loose battery connectors, or damage to the battery.

Over time, the slight movements in your engine as you drive can loosen one or both of the connectors. Electricity can’t flow through a gap, and even a minute space between the terminal and a connector will prevent the battery from recharging. We’ll examine your battery and repair or replace it depending on the situation.

Overheating

Although your engine runs at a warm temperature, too much heat will cause problems for the engine. The constant movement of parts and heat generated by combustion will result in major engine damage if the heat isn’t removed. Your vehicle has an efficient cooling system centered on the radiator that helps to control the heat while allowing your engine to operate effectively.

The first indication of an overheating problem most drivers see is an increase in the engine temperature gauge. If the temperature continues to rise, we advise switching off your engine and allowing it to cool. Call our service department immediately, and our technicians will find and repair the problem.

Blocked Air Filter

Your engine requires huge amounts of air for combustion, and this air enters through the radiator grille. The air is directed into the car air filter, where dirt and other debris are trapped before the clean air enters your engine. Dirt and other debris must be filtered out to prevent damage to your engine. The filter, however, will gradually become blocked.

A blocked air filter prevents air from entering your engine, which increases the ratio of fuel to air in the engine. A high fuel ratio can damage the spark plugs and cylinders and will cause misfiring and engine damage. We can quickly replace the filter to fix this problem.
